Microsociety

Welcome to the City of Renway (AKA the Renton/Skyway Boys & Girls Club) . . . a City imagined, created, and run by Renton and Skyway youth.

The MicroSociety After School program allows kids like YOU to create a sample of the real world in an after-school setting. In the MicroSociety Program at the Renton/Skyway Boys & Girls Club, all youth have a “job” or provide leadership to their peers through a government within the Club. Real World experiences like earning a “pay check,” visiting the bank or buying a snack at the café, let you learn skills that are proven to prepare you for the FUTURE while still having FUN!

The Teen program is a key contributor to our MicroSociety Program. Take part in a venture-making and selling your product. Or, if it’s social justice your interested in - run for a government position. Either way, this is your opportunity to have a voice in your afterschool program!!

Want to Vote?! No problem! All Renway Citizens have the right to vote and/or directly communicate with the Renway government. If you see something happening and don’t like it or want to change your Club world for the better . . . you’ll be able to make change happen here!

Want to save for something special? No problem! Renway’s Bank offers savings accounts. Stash your Micro cash and save for the in-house Club Regal Cinema, snacks in the Renway Café, weekly raffles or our weekly marketplace.

Like to work in groups with your friends? No problem! Start a business with your friends. Photos, comics, fun food, crafts, mix music, dance performance, even playing video games...there’s room for all your interests to become a valuable and fun part of the City of Renway. All your ideas can earn you Micro cash!!

Need help with homework? No problem . . good students make great citizens and we’re here to help!! Our daily Power Hour allows small group and 1:1 help as available.

For only $25 per year there is a safe place for those youth ages 11-18 to go before and after school. Beyond having access to our MicroSociety Program, Teens can grab breakfast, connect with friends, have an afternoon snack, finish homework, and find support from experienced staff.

Summer Camp

The Renton/Skyway Boys & Girls Club offers extensive summer camps within our teen and child care programs. The Summer of 2010 will have an extensive focus on extending our school year MicroSociety Program into a summer camp setting. Youth will learn and experience first hand the fun of building their own Club Society from scratch throughout the summer months. Leadership, fiscal responsibility, employment skills, governance, math, reading and fun will all be part of this experiential summer camp adventure! Field trips, arts & crafts, movies etc. The fun doesn’t have to end when school does!!
